Darin,
Spoke with Staggenborg, and Dale Lekume about your wheat on Monday pm. Both
think that we are okay on nitrogen as the nitrogen is in the roots, stems and
soil. Obviously the wheat hasn't used all 200 # NO3- but Dale was confident that
there shouldn't be any concerns.
On to the variable spots. I will be coming to take some pictures later today or
tomorrow of the stunted wheat. I am also going to take some 0-6 nutrient samples
on the good and the stunted. We are going to compare these spots. I am curious
if you have any yield data on this field that could be loaded as back ground map
to see if the spots line up with anything else.
Thoughts were as follows:
1. Super high or super low pH in the stunted spots
2. Extreme nutrient variability due to miss application of manure products
3. Since the varieties of wheat appear different: Poor wheat variety selection
for the soil types/ nutrients that are present
4. Nitrogen, Sulfur, Phosphate tied up due to soil types
5. Salt issues in small areas within the field
6. No clue at all? :) Thought this might make you smile. Neither people appeared
to be very eager to come take a look at this field.
Do you want to proceed in the discovery mode?
Call me when you get a chance to look at this.
