Darin,

Here are the thoughts on what I saw this morning.

Matts: Planted pretty well for the most part. The sticky soil was still slabby on Saturday. I think that it looks better than Hustead between you and I. The main benefits to IH planter unit are as follows: The depth tires allow the trench to "peel a little" as the disks go through the field. The closing disks then move the "peeled soil" back to where it was initially. This is a good thing in less than desirable planting situation especially wet soil. I drier soil this is not so good as the soil will be very loose and have a tendency to dry out.

Planting populations are approximately 29800-31250 where I dug and planting depth is 1.75" to 2.25". If you are planting 33B51 you will need to shallow the planter out to 1.5" maximum depth.

I stopped at Saylor and noticed that the soil was still pretty wet but working better than at Matt's. I would like you to get rid of the field cultivator as I dislike tilled soil......., just kidding.

Onward: Wheat
Saylor: pretty variable. I looks to be similar to what we are seeing at your house. From the distance it looks good but walking it is much smaller. The color symptoms are similar to your house. The wheat looks okay overall. I am noting a little powdery mildew but this wheat is much smaller than the wheat at Darin's. The powdery mildew is where the wheat is up to 6" tall.

Gerald's: Powdery mildew present same variability noted in the wheat. Noting the fertilizer stripping south of the shed with the stripping running NE to SW. This stripping is strange for the amount of manure that has been historically applied. I will be looking into the disease ID some more during the next week so hope to have some information for you by next week. South of shed the weed control looks to be good but scattered weeds north of the house.

I didn't spend a large amount of time on the wheat but did see what I was looking for: Variable, Disease, Weeds.
More information will be forth coming.

Are you planting 33R77/R78 at Saylor?
